Update – February 21, 2014
The HOS Search committee has been busy the last few weeks.
We had decided to get clarification on some questions regarding Yoni Binus, but upon returning home, he was offered and has accepted a position as HOS at his current Day School in Minneapolis. We wish him well.
Since then, we have conducted 2 more Skype interviews and have elected to invite one more candidate in for an onsite visit. We do not have a date confirmed yet, but it hopefully will be within the next 2-4 weeks. We are not able to share the candidate’s name at this time. As soon as it is appropriate, we will share more information.
The committee has been doing an incredible job, and we all appreciate your support.

Update – February 4, 2014
The entire HOS Search Committee would like to thank all of the faculty, staff, and administrators of the Galinsky Academy, parents, and friends for showing Henry Somers and Yoni Binus how incredible our schools, synagogue, and community are.
They both had many positive comments about our academy and thought we had strong foundations and commitment to educating our youth.
We appreciate and have considered all of the feedback we have received about the candidates. It is obvious to the search committee that we have a community that is invested and dedicated to the continued success of the Galinsky Academy.
The Search Committee has decided not to move forward with Henry Somers. Although we believe he is a qualified candidate, after discussion and thoughtful consideration, we have decided he is not the right fit for the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School or Galinsky Academy at this time.
The Search Committee has decided to get clarification on questions we have regarding Yoni Binus.
Meanwhile, we have received another resume and will be following up with a Skype interview with that candidate within the next 2 weeks.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to Mauri or Rick.
Thank you all again for actively participating with us in the search for our next HOS.
Mauri and Rick

Update – January 7, 2014
Happy New Year!
The Head of School Search Committee is happy to announce that we interviewed 3 more candidates via Skype on Sunday, January 5, 2014. We are planning on inviting two of these candidates for onsite visits, but first, we are in the process of completing our due diligence, such as checking references. Then we will coordinate dates when they can visit our schools and see the community. We are targeting late January or early February for the onsite visits.
As soon as we have completed the steps necessary to schedule a visit, we will share the names of the candidates, where they are from and some background information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mauri Mizrahi or Rick Plotkin.
Update – December 3, 2013
The HOS search committee has been busy over the last few weeks.
We have asked the school committees and the Education Cabinet to answer questions about the vision of the Galinsky Academy and each of its individual schools. We have also asked the teachers of the Martin J Gottlieb Day School and the administrators of the Preschool, Religious School and Hebrew High School for input regarding qualities our next HOS should possess. Both of these exercises have helped the search committee gain a greater understanding of what we are looking for in our next HOS.
Our job posting with the Schechter Network and the Day School Leadership Training Institute (DSLTI) have attracted 3 applicants so far. The committee created a set of questions to ask the candidates during a Skype interview. The Skype interviews took place Sunday, November 24, 2013. Each candidate was asked the same set of questions during a 40 minute interview. The majority of the search committee was present for the Skype interviews.
Although each of the candidates met our requirements on paper, after the Skype interviews, the search committee decided not to move forward with two of the candidates. The third candidate, who was the most compatible with what we are searching for, unfortunately, took a position elsewhere before we could extend an invitation to visit our schools.
The search committee continues to be proactive and is working diligently to attract more applicants.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mauri Mizrahi or Rick Plotkin.
Update – October 30, 2013
Our search for a new Head of Schools for the Galinsky Academy is progressing well.
The search committee, co-chaired by Mauri Mizrahi and Rick Plotkin, consisting of Debby Kaye, Ellen Rubens, Cheryl Plotkin, Jeff Leach, Karina Jeifez, Mel Gottlieb, Alyse Nathans and Gaby Bubis, had its first committee meeting Wednesday, October 23, 2013. During the meeting, the language for the job posting was agreed upon. Before the job was posted, the job description was submitted to the Education Cabinet for approval. The Center Board also had an opportunity to view the job description prior to the posting. The job posting was submitted to the Schechter Network last week and was published this week for potential applicants to see. After less than a day of posting, we had already received our first application for consideration.
We believe that it is important to keep everyone updated on our progress as we embark on this very important endeavor. In order to achieve this goal, we intend to use this blog as a message board to keep the community updated. Should anyone have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to either Mauri Mizrahi or Rick Plotkin. Thank you for trusting us with this very important task.
