Where the Red Fern Grows

Currently, I am reading Where the Red Fern Grows. The main character, Billy, is a very kind person. There are many reasons why I believe this to be true.

Whenever Billy’s grandfather gives him a bag full of candy, Billy gives it all to his sisters.  Also, when he won over $300, he gave it to his parents. They live in the

olden days so that is a lot of money. When Billy won a gold cup and silver cup he gave those to his sisters. He is always looking out for them. Another time, Billy had been saving up for two years to get $50 so he could buy two coon hounds. When the two years were up, the price had gone down $10. With the extra $10, Billy bought his whole family gifts.

Billy is a very kind person.

    Zoe,
I agree, I believe Billy’s character is so kind and generous. I want to emulate all of his amazing character traits. Very few people are born with the integrity, honesty, compassion, and consideration that Billy possesses. As you know, this is one of my favorite stories. I’m glad you read it with me in our group. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. What was your favorite scene? Which character did you dislike the most? Why?

Where the red fern grows was one of my favorite books when I was your age. I dreamed about saving up enough money to buy two dogs, or even one if my parents would allow me. I used to read it every night for an hour or so before my bedtime. Have you read the Indian in the Cupboard yet? That was another one of my favorites. Keep reading and dreaming!

I have not read the book before, but now maybe I will because of how well you have described it!

What’s next on your reading list? Is your Shelfari shelf up to date? I think this blog post would make a great summary of the book (if you haven’t already done it).

Keep reading and keep blogging Zoe!

I haven’t gone on Shelfari in about a year now. There is so much to add.

Zoe, this was also one of my favorite childhood books. I remember trying to sneak-read it quietly in class while the teacher was talking; I ended up getting caught as I started to cry towards the end. Like you, I also loved A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. Have you read all the Louisa May Alcott books as know you would enjoy them too?
    Love you so much!
