My Life As A Reader

Reading is a fantastic passed time. In a couple of hours you could have a whole NEW persepctive on life. Since about 1st grade I have been able to read by my self. It was a new experience that I found ordinary. As I grow older, I really appreciate reading. It has become something that I truly enjoy and can learn a lot from. My favorite book when I was younger was “Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam McBratney. It was an aborable tale of a mother and her child. These characters were both rabbits. In the story, they both tried to express how much they loved each other. The child would say that he loved her ” this much” stretching his arms as far as they would go. The mother rabbit would do the same but her arms are longer than his. My favorite quote from this book is ” I love you to the moon and back”. This is one that has stuck with me my entire life. Every night when I was a child my mom would always say this to me before going to bed. Even today, whenever I tell my mom goodnight she will still recite this quote. Even when your younger, reading can affect your life, and for this reason, I love it.

Quick Write: Ted Williams

I like to think of life as a learning experience, that you take one step at a time. Whether or not you learn on the first try doesn’t matter, it’s how you react to failure. If you just keep trying to do your best, you can achieve anything, or at least strive to do your best. In the case of Ted Williams, I believe he is still learning in life. He might not be as fast of a learner as some of us but that is no reason to criticize, but a gateway for us to help him. I think that he is a man that should be helped and than taken under the wing of somebody he can learn from. He has a god given talent, but he needs to learn how to use it.

“Golden Voice” Ted Williams is a 53 year old man that has gone from “ Rags to Riches “ per say. Although we do not know the exact circumstances, the most common assumption in that this man should not be famous because of his actions in the past. Apparently, Ted has abused alcohol and drugs in the past, and possibly has recently done so. His relationship with his family is not good, and due to this he was put on the street and was homeless. Recently, he was discovered for his amazing talent, his voice is what they say “ Golden “. Most sources believe that he has had 2 chances and he just needs to go to rehab, and should not be given a career.

Overall, I believe he should be given more chances. He has a great talent that shouldn’t be ignored. Although he might take longer than others I believe he will soon be okay. Therefore, I do hope he has a great life with marvelous experiences waiting for him, once he figures out his life.

I chose to post this story because of the message I would like to share with every person who reads this. The main idea I would like people to understand is the importance of giving people the amount of time they may need to figure themselves out. If everyone was given one chance to get things right in our lives, where would we be?

What Am I Good At?

October 2010

About four years ago I began taking horseback riding lessons. I thought I was so cool because once a week I got to ride a pony for 30 minutes. Now I look back thinking how little I was and how I have grown so much not only physically but I have grown in skill. Now I ride every day of the week except Sunday and Monday, and I have grown in skill tremendously. This is something I am very proud of.

When I first started riding, I basically just sat on this little white pony named Dolly. She is about 29 years old, and is the oldest horse at Coriander Farm where I ride. She has been there forever but she is great to learn with. I learned all of the basics with her and she taught me a lot. After 2 years of riding, I was offered a horse to lease and his name was Milo. I can honestly say if it weren’t for Milo, I would not be nearly as good of a rider as I am today. It has been about another 2 years since I have ridden Milo, but I have progressed a lot. You see, when I rode Milo, he would always stop at the jumps, and I fell off of him most of the time. This is the reason I gained so much experience from him. He taught me so many things that I wouldn’t have traded the experience of riding him for anything.

Now, I ride a horse named Peanut. He is about 6 years old, and I have been riding him for about a year and half. I have done just about everything with him, including progressing a riding level. He has been awesome to me and I love him. I really have to admit I have been blessed with great horses.

Overall I feel like I have grown, as a rider, and I truly love to ride horses. I believe that I will do this as long as I can, and as long as I am allowed the privilege. I think I am pretty good at it too! To grow as a rider even more, it just takes practice. Once you combine practice and hard work you can achieve success. Once you have practiced enough, you can go to a horseshow and compete. I am very excited to go to Atlanta next week, and also Ocala in December. I can’t wait!

Persuasive Essay: Obama’s Decision

On Tuesday August 30, 2010 Barack Obama will be making a resolution to bring home some of the troops that have been sent to Iraq, to help their army control the chaos that has been happening in their country. His plan to bring home some of the troops, is a good idea, as long as enough troops are kept in Iraq to handle the current situation.

In his speech that he gave to the “ National Convention of Disabled American Veterans” in Atlanta, Georgia, he finally confirmed his plans to keep the 50,000 U.S troops in Iraq, out of the 65,000 troops who are in Iraq now. “ The remaining 50,000 troops will stay in the country in order to train Iraqi security forces, conduct counterterrorism operations, and provide civilians with ongoing security “ said Barack Obama. This confirms my opinion that a certain amount of troops have to be kept in Iraq to maintain a stable security situation. The 31st of August is the end of “ Operation Iraqi Freedom “. This operation was designed for the U.S troops to help Iraq actively fight, and help protect the citizens. In spite of the fact that much of this has been accomplished, troops will remain in Iraq until 2011 to help the Iraqi army, without participating in battle. I believe that this idea is specifically important. By keeping just enough troops in Iraq, we are able to get the job done, but with minimal casualties and injuries. On the other hand, this shows that we have enough people there to create and provide protection for the Iraqi people.

In every situation there are two sides to the story, one being people who agree with what Obama is planning, and other people who “ Voice Concerns “. Shortly after hearing of his plans, the Democratic Party had concerns. House speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “ I don’t know what the justification is for 50,000, a presence of 50,000 troops in Iraq…. I do think that there’s a need for some. I don’t know that all of them have to be in (the)country “. I disagree with these views. If there are not enough troops in the country, it creates an unsafe atmosphere for the Iraqi people, due to the fact that their security forces are not stable. Also, the amount of troops placed in the country could affect the amount of time spent on duty. If we have a sufficient amount of troops in place, we could limit the duration of this operation, resulting in a better relationship with Iraq, and families being reunited with loved ones sooner, with a job completed well. As a result, I disagree with those who oppose Obama’s decision. How are we supposed to help the Iraqi people, if there are not enough people to actively help and the country could fall apart if not approached carefully

Obama has made the decision to keep the total of 50,000 troops in Iraq until 2011. Although I do not agree with most of Obama’s plans and ideas, this is one I strongly agree with. Without troops in Iraq how do we fully complete the mission and secure a stable Iraq? If we drop everything now, what will we have accomplished? Providing enough troops in Iraq will allow the U.S to actively lend a hand to those who still need it. Iraq is still in a state of confusion in much of their country and they still need our help. This is what we are here for. As a country based around freedom and helping those around us, I would challenge other people to agree with the President’s decision to complete the job we began to help stabilize Iraq.

For our history class we were challenged to write a persuasive essay about anything controversial going on in our world. Personally I found this very intriguing, and decided to write my essay based on Obama’s decision to take out or leave troops in Iraq. I also believe this is a great piece that expresses my thoughts and opinions nicely.

Get Me Out

Get me out

Far away from a place which I do not belong

I can not describe the emotion of being starred at by all

Yet I am better than that

I see the faces when I decide to join

But who cares when

I know who I am

The reason I chose this piece is because I feel it is full of emotion. I also feel like everybody can relate to it. It shows two sides of life that I really feel strongly about, being yourself while not fitting in.

A Daze of Perplexing Emotion

A Daze of Perplexing Emotion

By: Leslie

What do you see,

When you look at me

Do you see an organized place

Or a boring face

Life is about looking at things

Paying attention to all of the carvings

When shoved into a world of darkness

You will be baffled not aweless

So don’t think too much

and your emotion will show

that no matter how long you live

Your face will always glow

The reason I chose this piece for my portfolio is because I feel as though it shows two sides. One that represents the world, but it also connects to me personally. I really enjoy it, and hope you will too!
