Last Friday, my teacher showed us a knew way of learning, its called SOLE. SOLE stands  for self, organized, learning, and environment. SOLE came from a TED winning professor at M.I.T..  Me friends and I made a poster about a question. The question was what is this building and why is it broken. Well, we did know what the building was, it was the Roman Colosseum. And we also had the answers but we didn’t have the time to put it on. Although, planning the poster was what went well but again, we didn’t do it. I learned that the Colosseum had a theory how it got destroyed. Next time, I will join a group that I won’t fool around with or they’ll fool around with. For grade, I would giveand my team a C+ because we didn’t get so far with our poster.

photo (1)On April 23, 2013, I had a SLC conference. Do you know what SLC means? It means Student Led Conference. At 8:15 I began my conference. The people that came to my conference were my mom and my teachers. Now I’m going to tell you how I think I did.

I felt that I had a little confidence but was still nervous. I can tell because I had that nervous voice while speaking to my teachers and my mom.                                 I would say that I was kind of organized and prepared. I knew because at the beginning of my conference, I needed help with what I needed to say. When I did say it, I lost where I was.                                  I think what I needed to work on was to act more serious. I needed to be more serious because when I was reading my script I chuckled or talked a little weird.           If I got to change anything during my conference I would have changed my attitude because it was early in the morning and I was very, very, very tired.

I think it was good to have a conference with my mom and teachers because you get to have a review of what you did before and it helps you to know what to do in the future.                                                       I think this conference was helpful because the student gets advice from their parents and their teachers for the future to improve. The parent knows what’s going on and helps their kid on what they need help on.         My full opinion of my conference was a B+. I called it a B+ because I did need to improve in some parts.

Writing- Recently, I have chose my favorite blog piece. I chose Art? Learning? What Do They Have In Common?

I chose this piece because I worked with a skill I love, art. I am persuading that schools should have art or have more time for art. If I worked further on this piece, I would put more artists that I like and more agreements from other people. How this post is different from the beginning of the year is the explanations and it`s more descriptive.

I have learned that if you are persuading you have to really put your feelings in it. What I found challenging in this post was when I had to do examples of who else agrees to my idea. Usually you think you found a true script,  but instead it`s just nonsense.

Math- In math I have improved in multiplication. From the beginning of the year, we have been doing math sprints. I did not have the best confidence on completing a sprint with the correct answers. So then I usually got 16 answers wrong or not completed. Then each nine weeks, I have been improving with multiplication by studying a little more than I did at the beginning. Now I have been getting 100% or missed no more than 4 answers in my sprints. I can also now multiply huge numbers in the matter of seconds.

Project- Not too long ago me and my friend Griff made a tutorial on verbs. I chose this project because I love to work with computers also how there’s a topic that you can make lots of stories with. In this tutorial, there are animated examples and breaks for you to think what the verb is in each little clip. For example, “Someone threw a rock. Did you hear a verb in that sentence?……………….If you said threw, you are correct!”. We had an independent vote for the favorite

tutorial, and Griff and I won.

Conduct- In school, you always have to be on your best behavior so now I’m going to tell you my behavior. What I don’t need help on is listening, participating, and using teamwork. But what I do need help on is concentrating, organization, and talking. First of all, I need to concentrate better. What I’ll try to do is try to move somewhere else or ignore the distracting object or ask to be quiet. Second, I need to organize better. I’ll try to fix my desk or locker each week or try not to get offerings from friends. Last, I need to stop talking all the time. I`ll try to ask a teacher to make me move away or ask the other person to be quiet so I will not have much to say. I would like all my teachers to help me complete this goal.

Jewish Studies-  At first, I wasn’t really good at Hebrew especially homework. The homework I have trouble with is hebrew sentences. I used to use google translate and I knew that was a bad solution but I really needed help. I always used to get a  C- but now that has changed. I really tried to make a sentence without google translate and eventually I got a B+. That was my Jewish studies goal from the beginning or the year.

New Goals- Now since this is a new nine weeks, I need some new goals but first I’ll talk about my old goals. My old goals were reading and math. I have already completed those goals. In reading I have completed three books and made extra credit for the projects. In math, I have been studying better and have been getting 100%. My new goals are being faster at reading, speaking Hebrew better, and study better.

Do you think art has education? Many people  think art is just a way of expressing yourself. Yes, art expresses yourself but art also helps with language arts and math skills. Some schools have short art classes, other schools don’t even have art. Those schools should have at the most 50 minutes of art once a week.

I think every school should have art because art has math like fractions, geometric shapes, symmetry, and measurement.   Modern art is mostly geometric shapes, such as the art by Piet Mondrian.  Students all over the world study and copy his work.

Art is like language arts.  It describes adjectives, explanations, and vocabulary. When an artist creates their work, they usually have an explanation for it.  One of my favorite artists is Romero Britto.  He is a pop culture artist.  The New York Times described his work as, “exudes warmth, optimism and love.”  Many people use descriptive words to tell about art.  A New Day 2001 20" x 27" Acrylic on Canvas

But most of all art has creativity like using your imagination, mental thinking ( plans for idea), and inspiration. Kids need that creativity for a better future.

                                                                    How you can help

You should persuade friends ( like a team) and then convince others for art or,  if you are an adult you can persuade even a principal or friends that art education should be in all schools.

                                                                Others’ agreements

These are other people that agree for more art.

For an animation imagination lets hope that there will be more art in each school.

I would recommend this video for second graders and younger. This is a video explaining what a verb is. My friend Griff  and I made this video on a app called Frames. While you watch this video you will see and hear some examples and explanations of verbs with a little humor. I hope you enjoy this video!

You may be wondering what this picture is and why I chose this picture. Well, this picture is a picture of Andrew Jackson and his troops.  Where did this event happen in Florida history? It happened when the Seminoles warned the U.S. troops not to go pass a river that borders the Seminole territory. This event is important because it was the start of the first Seminole War.

I chose drawing Andrew Jackson because he is my favorite Florida history citizen and he was the person  Jacksonville was named after  and I live there.  Maybe the next Florida history picture I  will make will be about the Seminoles and there history.0

Well now you know what my picture is and why I choose it.Do you think history is fascinating? If you have any suggestions of the next picture I should draw I would like to know.

Do you know what a limerick is? A limerick is a poem about silliness. They start with five lines. line one and two both have a rhyming ending. Lines three and four have a different rhyming ending. But line five has the same rhyming ending as lines one and two.

Limericks are a little confusing when you hear it, but when you do it it`s more simple and fun. My limerick is a story about a poor guy named Dave that lived in a cave.  I made this poem because I thought of a cave, then Dave and I was playing minecraft. This is the story of Dave.

Once there was a man named Dave.
That lived in a dark and scary cave.
Then he heard deep harsh growl.
He also saw the scary creature prowl.
Sadly, he was never,ever saved.

Last night was the Science Fair at my school.  There were lots of different projects and people.  The projects were made by students from third grade up to eighth grade.  The winners of the science fair were: Aaron K in first place, Joey P and Ryan M in second place, and Shelby W in third place. My project was about Bernoulli’s principle. Bernoulli’s principle is about wind flow ( like how planes work).  I worked with my friends Parker B and Zach M to make this awesome project. Sadly, I did not win a trophy.  I learned from this experience that you should not be in such a hurry that you have like about three weeks left. You should always take your time.

My favorite project was my sister Cayla’s.  She built a maze for hamsters and mice to prove if a mouse is smarter than a hamster.  I also liked Rachel O’s project.  Her project was about the amount of watts that you need to light a light bulb.  I thought her display was really cool.

The night ended with a show called Chill.  They used dry ice and made a cool way to make matter with it.  There was bubbles, steam, and fire blowing.  I thought the show was awesome.  If you ever been to a science fair, how was your experience?

Do you know what a cinquain is? It is a very odd name but it is a type of poem that has two syllables at the beginning, four syllables in the second row, six syllables in the third row, eight syllables in the fourth row, and two syllables for the fifth row. There are many other ways but I choose to do this way.

My ciquain is describing a type of dinosaur that is very strong. I wrote this because I absolutely love all- sorts of dinosaurs. Do you have a (some) favorite dinosaur(s)? Guess what kind of dinosaur I am describing.

Dinosaur
Such harsh reptile
Hunting, sneaking,running
Eating non – stop, furious might
Extinct

Hint: it is a carnivore, it is very big but not the biggest, it is known as a dinosaur named Sue. Who am I?
