I created a shirt about carbon in science as a school project recently. The shirt was white and listed facts about carbon and had a Bohr Model. Here are some facts about carbon: Carbon has an atomic mass of 12.0107, and an atomic number of 6. Carbon has 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons. The melting point of carbon is 3550 °C. The phase temperature is 5,530°C. Carbon is a non-metal. Carbon is in group 14. Carbon was recognized as an element in the second half of the 18th century.

The Odyssey is an epic poem by Homer. It is basically part two of The Iliad. The book takes place ten years after the fall of Troy. Odysseus still hasn’t returned to Ithaca. Suitors have basically taken over the kingdom trying to marry Odysseus’s wife, Penelope. She has been delaying any sort of marriage by saying that she is still in the process of sewing. She is actually undoing it everyday and then re-sewing it. The men fighting for her hand in marriage found out and forced her to choose a husband. While all this is going on Odysseus’s son, Telemachus, has been searching for his father. This is a very good story and I highly recommend reading it to find out what happens.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a screenplay book and movie by J.K. Rowling about the author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” which is a fictional book in the first Harry Potter book that is required in their first year of attending school. The original screenplay book and the movie are based on the story of the author who’s name is Newt Scamander. He has an interest in magical creatures. He captures them, takes care of them, and lets them free. He goes on an adventure to New York and finds himself in trouble and ultimately helping to save the city. This is a very fun and exciting screenplay book filled with adventure, heroism, and much more.

I think the saying “you are what you eat” relates to Kashrut and food in general because you are consuming something which is then inside of you. So, if something is inside of you, in a way, you are whatever that is and it is whatever you are. This is all metaphorically speaking of course. One big question is “Why would what we eat be a religious issue?” Well, there are many banned foods when it comes to what Jews can eat. For example, pork. In my opinion, I don’t understand why G-d would care if abstain from pork or other non-Kashrut foods. With all due respect, G-d created the universe, I don’t think he’d draw the line at the deli aisle. On the other hand, if we are assuming that G-d made this law, then the only issue with these foods in our religion would be that we have to blindly trust that G-d is steering us in the right direction.

While you may think the government is protecting us by monitoring what we do on our cell phones, they are are actually breaking the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. In addition to that, you never know who is watching you. Yes, it could be someone with good morals; however, it could also be a pervert, a mentally ill person, or someone that is going to abuse their power. Do you really want our government to know what you’re doing virtually all the time? Our government cannot continue to monitor our every move and spy on us; it is against the constitution and it is against the people.

To begin with, the system our government uses to spy on us was actually created with assistance from the Central Intelligence Agency who are banned from domestic spying. The system actually imitates cell tower’s performance so that they can gather thousands of phones’ data all at once across the entire country. The CIA supposedly spent $100 million on this technology. It would potentially be a great investment for spying on other countries that potentially pose a threat. Instead, it is also being used to spy on law abiding citizens across the U.S. None of this has been authorized by Congress either. This is technically ok since the DOJ doesn’t need approval to launch new technology (Davis).

Additionally, it’s not only the NSA spying on you, it’s also the police. At least twenty-five police departments own high-tech suitcases that acts as a cell tower called Stingrays. These devices can cost up to $400,000. The systems are generally installed in cars so that they are portable to bring to any neighborhood. This tricks phones into connecting to the fake cell tower so that they feed the police information. Our federal government pays for many of these purchases. In certain states, these systems are extremely easy to get for the police. Now you have even more strangers tapping into your phones to see what you’re up to. Police say the data can help them track down criminals, prevent terrorist attacks, and find kidnapped children. “I don’t think that these devices should never be used, but at the same time, you should clearly be getting a warrant,” said Alan Butler of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) (Kelly).

On the other hand, 56% of Americans are okay with the NSA collecting phone data from millions of Americans. In addition, 45% of Americans believe that our government should go further and actually monitor all of our online activity. President Obama along with other Presidents have believed that we need to monitor phone calls and what people do to prevent things such as terrorist attacks against the U.S.A. This is a good idea but what about the people that are just normal citizens who aren’t suspected of doing any crime? There isn’t any reason to be concerned about being surveyed as long as the people behind it are responsible and trustworthy, but you cannot guarantee that they are trustworthy (Howerton).

In conclusion, our government shouldn’t be spying on us constantly along with promoting spying by giving the police the ability to monitor us as well. Even though the majority of Americans are ok with the NSA looking into virtually everything we do, it still isn’t a solid enough plan to protect the United States from attacks without potentially harming citizens mentally or physically. Our government needs to come up with a plan to both protect our country and its citizens. A plan with holes in it is like a ship with holes, eventually it will sink. For now, citizens need their privacy and don’t need every one of their calls to be saved.

When the Jews asked the Pharaoh of Egypt for freedom, he stubbornly refused to let them leave. I know quite a few stubborn people. Some people have a hard time being flexible because of their life at home or because they et it from a parent. For example, if they see one parent that they take after being stubborn often, they will tend to do it as well.

“Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human. It’s a self-centered falsehood that corrupts our minds into believing we are right to treat others as we would not want to be treated.” -Alveda King
It’s a sunny day, you can see the sun through the slightly cloudy, blue sky. The clouds are white and fluffy; they are soaring through the sky above my head. I was wrongly accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now I sit here in this dark, gloomy prison that metaphorically and literally puts me in mental and physical chains, because of attempting to help a white woman. My name is Tom Robinson. I have nothing to lose. It is a good day to die, or escape.
With nothing to lose, I have an opportunity not everyone gets. I can run, be free, or die. Although, I know that I have no chance of living. As a black man, I know I’m getting the death penalty and will be thought to have raped a young woman. One of my big mistakes was feeling sorry for this white woman who had nobody else to help her; her name is Mayella Ewell. She will continue to get abused by her father and will have nobody to help her with her chores. It truly is too bad she had to lie, thus putting me in this exasperating situation. There is a quote that describes what I am going through and have gone through before from Homer, “No one can hurry me down to Hades before my time, but if a man’s hour is come, be he brave or be he coward, there is no escape for him when he has once been born.” So, there is no escape, but I can be a coward or I can be brave and die on my own terms. No one will hurry my death besides me.
I prepare to run not for my life, but for my death. So, I check the positions of the guards throughout my temporary stay. As I prepare for the day to come where I die, I keep to myself, I’m not very social. Whilst waiting, I overhear some fellow prisoners talking about a plan to escape. Sadly, their plan would take longer than I would’ve liked. I’d be dead before being able to escape with them (if they allowed me to go along with them). So, I now knew the rotation of the guards. I realize that I have no way out unless I manage to be faster than a speeding bullet. As I wait for the right day to run, I reflect on what I’ve done in my life and if I’ve made a difference. I believe that Atticus and I have made a small difference. Robert F. Kennedy said, “Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” I believe Atticus and I had made a small ripple of hope in the sense that the jury actually had to think about who was in the wrong: a white man or a black man. Maybe people in Maycomb will have just a little more respect for black people. If so, everything would have been worth it. I just wish I could live longer to see what comes out of this strenuous situation.
Today is the day. I have been in prison for less than a week. There is just five minutes till we are released to do work outside. I hear the bell ring and we are let outside. I wait for the right time. I begin to pick up my pace heading for the fence. I hear yelling, so I go into a full sprint. Then, I hear gunshots. I get hit once in the leg, but I continue to persevere. The next shot went into my ribs, it hurt like hell but the adrenaline was rushing and I still continued running. I heard another gunshot and…
There I was, floating above my body, I saw people sprinting towards me. My body was bloody and completely still. My life was shorter than it should have been; it was only short because of racism that will eventually burn humanity from the inside out. There is still hope since there are people in the world like Atticus and his family. As my body becomes farther away and the world seems to darken, my final hope is that it all would have been worth something.

Racism- prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.
“Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human. It’s a self-centered falsehood that corrupts our minds into believing we are right to treat others as we would not want to be treated.” -Alveda King

Racism is something that has haunted humanity for a very long time. Humans have showed hatred to fellow humans purely based off the way they look. Racism is also like an incurable disease that continues to spread. It is always spreading because if you’re racist you could end up raising your child to have a racist mindset, then they raise there child that way, so on and do forth. People believe that things that you aren’t used to like different skin, eyes, etc. are bad things. This isn’t right and should not be tolerated. People in this day and age need to consolidate each other and grow together.
Throughout To Kill A Mockingbird racism was addressed as a negative theme and yet they still used the “n-word.” In the context and setting of the story it did make sense that their generation would use the derogatory term for African-American people. Sadly this is how people generally used to talk and some people still do today. It was especially shown during the Tom Robinson case when he had a great lawyer (Atticus), and was proven to be innocent, but was still sent to prison and killed. He was only found guilty by jury because of his skin color. A common theme in To Kill A Mockingbird was discrimination against race, gender, and class.
Even the people who were known to not be racist had used the “n-word” during the book. For example, Scout and Jem would use the word at times when referring to African-Americans. Scout and Jem were especially known to not be racist after their father, Atticus, had defended Tom Robinson in court. Atticus also defended him when he easily could have been killed since he was moved to the Maycomb County Jail. Another example of racism in the book is when Mrs. Dubose makes a comment as Scout and Jem had passed her porch. She says, “Your father’s no better than the niggers and trash he works for!” This clearly shows she is unhappy that their father is defending an African-American strictly because of his race.
Oddly enough, there is also an example of racism towards white people in one particular part of the book. This was when Calpurnia took Scout and Jem to her church. Lula racially discriminates against them because they are white in an African-American church. Back on the topic of the Robinsons, Helen Robinson must also face prejudice. Nobody wants to hire her and when she does get a job she is harassed by Bob Ewell on her way to work. This all happens to her because of her race and because her husband supposedly raped Mayella Ewell. Atticus even says in the book, “In our courts, when it’s a white man’s word against a black man’s, the white man always wins.” This is definitely shown throughout the book and was shown throughout the time period in which the book takes place.
In conclusion, racism is clearly shown during the book. Sadly, this leads to a man’s death which was not uncommon back then. Bob Ewell’s full name is Robert E. Lee Ewell, he is named after the general who commanded the Confederate army which is an interesting way to show how racist he is. The way to stop racism is for it to be accepted as more of an issue, people seem to believe that because it’s 2017 people are no longer racist, this is inaccurate. People will always be racist but we could minimize the amount of people that are. We just need to attempt to ensure that parents and children learn what’s right and that we are all equal.

Let all who are hungry come and eat,

let all who are in need come and make Pesach.

The MJGDS mitzvah project has impacted me in many ways. It has helped me to become more compassionate, caring, and accepting. The words above show how we are taught to feel about people and life in general. We should always welcome in those who are hungry. We need to help other people since that is the kind of support we would need if we were in their shoes. And we are all people, we should always be caring for each other and be willing to help.

Anti-Semitism is when someone has prejudice against Jews. Anti-Semitism has haunted Jews for an extremely long time. Things can still be tough at times but people’s opinions towards Jews have improved for the most part. One example of a time where Anti-Semitism took place is the story of Purim.

Another example is the holocaust. This was the darkest time for Jews especially in terms of Anti-Semitism. Millions of Jews were killed purely because of them being Jews. Being called a Jew used to be and sometimes still is used as an insult and it is and always has been unacceptable. In some cases we are put down because some people envy us, others just hate us because we’re different.

Overall, Anti-Semitism is unacceptable and shouldn’t be allowed. There is a difference though in being truly Anti-Semitic and satire jokes about Jews. Comedy is a different story and would have to be addressed in a separate blog post that would consist of my viewpoint on the matter. The point of this blog post is express that you should always try to stand up for people if you see any verbal or physical abuse being dealt.
