Best Post

This week, Mrs. Teitelbaum told us to write a post about our best posts and why.  I’m choosing The Floor.  Here it is.

The Floor

Preface: This week, my class had to write blog posts.  The different thing is that in the blog post, we can’t live in Jacksonville, Florida.  We have to live somewhere else and it can’t be 2012.  I chose to live in Israel, and for the year to be 2014.  So without further adieu, I present you: The Floor.

Chapter 1

“Jonah!  Wake up!”  I rubbed my eyes and sat up. There was my brother Gabriel, literally bouncing around the room.  “What?”  I groaned, sitting up in bed.  “Don’t you remember?” asked Gabe.  “Itamar and Elior are coming over!”  I jumped out of bed.  I’d forgotten.  Today my friends Itamar and Elior were coming to Israel for a visit.  Gabe had been really excited when he found out.  After breakfast we went to the airport to pick them up.  When we went inside we saw them.  Itamar had a mischievous smile and on his legs were cuts and scrapes from running through bushes.  Elior had a sense of humor, and he and I sometimes talked in what we called “Meh” Language.  (Neither of us understood it though.)  Both of them loved legos, which explained why they both had their own suitcases which were filled with them.  As we left the airport Itamar asked. “So, what now?”  “We’re going to the synagogue.” I replied sadly. “Today’s Shabbat.”

Chapter 2

Before we went to the synagogue, we had to change into formal clothes.  As Gabe and I got ready, he said, “Man, I can’t believe that we had to pick them up on Shabbat.”  “Yeah.” I said.  “But soon it will be over.”  How wrong I was.  When we got to the synagogue, we sat down to pray.  About an hour later we were about to leave, when the trouble happened.  Gabe was so excited, that he was jumping all over the place.  “Gabe, stop.”  I warned, but it was too late.  Gabe, Elior, Itamar, and I fell through the floor.  “Whoa!” I yelled as we fell.  Finally, we landed.  Gabe fell flat on his face.  Elior fell on top of Itamar.  I got up and looked around.  It seemed that we were in some sort of hallway.  “Okay, does anybody know how to get out?” asked Gabe.  “Well, since you got us into this mess, you’re going to find a way out,” replied Elior.  Gabe groaned and went off.  After a few minutes he came back screaming, “Bad Guys!”

Chapter 3

All four of us looked down the hall.  Suddenly, several people appeared.  Most had guns, but a few had swords.  We ran toward them, and the battle began.  I started fighting a guy with a pistol.  Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Itamar blowing up a guy with a bazooka, and Gabe being chased by a guy with a sword.  All I remember of Elior was him being thrown into a wall, but I think he actually defeated most of them.  After the big fight we each had something.  I had a pistol, Itamar had a bazooka, Elior had a sword, and Gabe had a giant cut across his face.  We went down the hall.  After a while we came to a dead end.  We started to turn back, only to find that there was a wall there too.  I looked down, and saw something that I had not noticed before.  There were lots of bones scattered everywhere.  Then Gabe screamed, “The bones are alive!”  I looked.  The bones were rising. But under them were—”Spikes!” yelled Gabe.  Sure enough, the floor and ceiling were bursting with spikes.  But when Gabe backed against the wall, he made the ceiling start to lower.  All at the same time, the spikes kept growing.  We were trapped.

Chapter 4

Just when it seemed that we were going to die, Itamar yelled, “Feel the power of the bazooka!” and started shooting the ceiling and the spikes.  After a lot of shooting, he shot the wall by mistake.  Maybe it was just luck, or maybe it wasn’t a mistake, but the spikes stopped coming and retracted, and the ceiling rose.  Then a door appeared.  We quickly ran out of it.  After a while, Gabe stopped running and said, “Okay, let’s focus on operation escape.”  “Well,” I replied. “If we’re going to have any hope of getting out of here, we’re going to have to keep on running.  We ran for a little while longer, and suddenly Elior yelled, “Get back!  It’s a cliff!”  But Gabe didn’t listen and jumped off the cliff.  “Gabe!” we all yelled.  “Down here!” came Gabe’s faint voice.  “There’s a river!”  Reluctantly, Itamar, Elior, and I jumped off the cliff.  We all landed in the river.  Coughing and gasping, we all got on the ledge.  “Gabe!” I called.  “Hel—”  responded Gabe’s voice.

Chapter 5

“Gabe!” I yelled, as we ran toward where his voice came from.  When we turned a corner, we found a bound and gagged Gabe, a bunch of bad guys, and a treasure chest.  We ran into battle.  I shot a couple of guys before being thrown against the wall.  I saw Itamar fighting a guy, and Elior unbound Gabe and took off his gag.  After a while, both Elior and Gabe were thrown against the wall.  Only Itamar was still standing.  “Do something!” Gabe yelled.  “Right.” replied Itamar.  Suddenly he started shooting crazily.  Soon, all of the bad guys were either dead or knocked out.  Elior, Gabe, and I got up, cheering.  “It was nothing.” said Itamar.  Then he accidentally shot the floor, causing a spring, which pushed him through the ceiling, which created something like a chimney.  Elior and Gabe went into the spring and shot up too.  Before I went, I grabbed hold of the treasure chest.  Then I shot up also.

Epilogue

After I shot up, I met the others.  It turned out that we had crashed through the ground near the airport.  We walked back home, and cashed in the treasure.  Then we divided the money between each other.  After a week, Itamar and Elior left.  Gabe kept boasting to his friends that he had saved everyone.  He got mad when I told his friends the truth.  The synagogue was closed down, and a new one opened. It was named The Floor Synagogue.  Only the people who had seen us fall through the floor knew why it was called that, but other people would just have to wonder.

THE END

The reason I chose that post is that, well you see, we have this blogging rubric.  The levels are, 1, Beginner, 2, Capable, 3, Accomplished, and 4, Expert.  The reason I mentioned this is because I graded myself, and my scores were pretty high.  For one, I didn’t have any spelling or grammar errors.  Actually, it’s very easy to spellcheck.  There’s an option for spellcheck whenever I’m writing a post.  Anyway, enough of that.  Also, I added three links.  One to Itamar’s blog, one to Elior’s blog, and one to the subject of the post.  I looked on all of the other sections of the rubric, and I saw that most of them were in the expert level.  I named these two because those were the two things that I think stuck out the most.  In the meantime, I just want you to know that Bob and the Phantom Bob is coming out this summer. I hope you can’t wait!

President Pick

Today, Mrs. Teitelbaum asked us if we could pick anybody we know to be president, who would it be and why?  Now, no offense to anyone, but I’d choose myself.  You might ask, why did you pick yourself to be president?  Well for one, I’m really good with multiplication, so that would cover finances.  Go on; post a comment with a multiplication problem from 1-12.  I bet I could figure it out without using paper.  (Don’t worry, I won’t use a calculator.) Also, I think of myself as a leader.  For example, earlier this year my class had to do a wiki.  My group chose PowerPoint.  Since I had experience with PowerPoint, I took charge, and I must admit, it turned out to be a pretty good PowerPoint. Also, integrity.  Once, at my house, I was hosting a mini game show.  When I made up the rules, I made sure they were fair.  (Although that didn’t stop Gabe from saying that it wasn’t fair when he lost.)  Then there are computers.  I don’t exactly know that would be useful, but I have a feeling that it is.  Then there are my grades.  Whenever our report cards come in, I almost always get Honor Roll.  Those are just some of the things that would make me a good president.

How Do Weathering and Erosion Affect Rocks?

Have you seen a statue with its features worn away?  That is weathering.  Weathering is when rocks break down into smaller pieces.  One type of weathering physically breaks rock into smaller pieces.  The other type of weathering changes the chemical makeup of rock.  Sinkholes are the result of weathering.  Did you know that rocks expand when heated and contract when cooled?  Well, it can.  If you keep repeat heating and cooling it, it will eventually crack or break.  Did you know that wind can also cause weathering?  It picks up small pieces of rock, then throws them against other rocks.  Erosion happens after weathering.  It’s the process of moving sediment.  In deserts, wind erosion is very common.  The wind stacks sand into a huge mound called a sand dune.  Glacier also causes erosion.  As they move, they pick up rocks and soil.

Well, I hope you learned a lot about how weathering and erosion affect rocks.  Bye!

Science Lab Fun

Yesterday, we went to the science lab to learn about rocks.  When we got there, the teacher started by telling us the three types of rocks, Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic.  Then the fun part began.  She had us put crayons, sand, and little chunks of rocks onto a piece of tinfoil.  Then, she had us close up the piece of tinfoil into a ball, which made Sedimentary Rock. Then, she had us put a book on it and press down, which added heat and pressure, and made Metamorphic Rock.  Then, we put it on a hot plate, and made Igneous Rock.  We peeked inside the tinfoil, and saw that it didn’t look anything like it looked like before.  I had a very fun time that day.

Should Hunting be Allowed?

Today my reading group read a book called Where the Red Fern Grows.   It’s about a boy and his two dogs, who hunt raccoons.  We had to write a blog post that says if hunting should be allowed, and I think that it should not.  I say this because if you kill an animal, you’re basically killing another person.  Also, g-d created animals for a reason, and not just to be hunted and killed.  What would you think if animals basically became humans and humans became animals, and animals started coming after you trying to kill you?  I bet you’d probably be killed within a month.  That’s why I think hunting should not be allowed.

Hyperlink Writing Experimenting

Today, Mrs Tolisano came in and taught us about hyperlinks.  We did a sample blog post with lots of hyperlinks.  Here it is.

We Surf the Globe

On our blogs, we embedded a Clustr Map.  A Clustr Map is a map on your blog that shows you the location of the visitors of your blog.  The map helps us visualize where our readers are from.  We have been surfing the virtual globe to countries all around the world, such as Thailand, Switzerland, and Czech Republic, because we know that they have read our posts.

I learned that hyperlinked writing is better than normal writing because it would be boring if all you could do was read posts, but with hyperlinks, you can check out other stuff.  Bye!

Quad Blogging Reflection

So, what exactly is quad blogging?  Quad blogging is where four classes around the world gather together.  Each week, the classes take turns commenting on one of their blogs.

We worked with classes in Switzerland, Thailand, and Czech Republic.  Our class was the last to get commented on.  Some of the things I liked about the quad blogging were that we all got lots of comments on our blogs.  Also, it was really fun.  One time, I logged into my blog, and saw that I had seven new comments!  I felt really good, and because they were extraordinary, it took me a long time to reply to all of them.

I think that my writing has improved because before, my comments were just a couple sentences.  Now, they are huge!  My class has this blogging rubric and my comments were expert level!

I loved quad blogging.  What would you probably think of it?

My Superpower

My class had to pick a superpower this week.  I chose invincibility because I can never be killed.  I could corner a bad guy and no matter how much he tried to kill me, he couldn’t be able to.  I could pick him up easily and bring him to jail.  I could do that with a bunch of other bad guys and if they broke out of jail, I could easily put them back.  That is why I chose invincibility.  (Also so I could eat as much as I like and still be able to fight crime.)

Third Book Report

The third nine weeks are over and this time, I chose “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” and my CI was to make a timeline. In this book, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are trying to find treasure.  But when they finally find it, Injun Joe steals it.  They chase after him but lose him.  Then Tom has a hunch as to where the treasure is hidden.  Will they find the treasure, or will Injun Joe stop them?  Find out in:  The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
