An Unlikely Hero

Posted by on November 11, 2014

We watched a movie last Friday instead of going on a mitzvah trip. The movie was called Simon Birch. The two main characters are boys named Simon and Joe. Simon is very small and may not have very many years left at the age of twelve. Joe is a normal boy that is best friends with Simon.

Their friendship is unique because Simon and Joe act normal around each other even though Simon is farthest from normal. They share something not very may friends do in their lifetime. The preacher had strong feeling about Simon because Simon made the other kids at Sunday school nervous by saying that he was God’s instrument. He didn’t except Simon as he was because Simon had different beliefs than he did. Simon believed that he would be a hero and that he was God’s instrument.

I believe that God has a purpose for every human being on this earth. I think God has a purpose for me too, but I don’t know what that could be yet. Simon is right that everyone is God’s instrument and has a purpose. This was one of the best movies I have seen and I hope we can see more for mitzvah trips.

    Elior,
I am glad that you found this movie meaningful. It is one of my favorites.
I am also glad that you think God created you for a purpose. I believe it too! Sometimes it is hard to know what that purpose is. I think that if we live our life the right way and try to do the right things all of the time, one day we will discover our purpose.
