Reading Choice Board Activities

This quarter we set a reading goal, and we have to do an activity for some of the books that we read.  The charts that have the activities on them are called Reading Choice Boards (RCBs).   I got a fourth grade RCB, and a fifth grade RCB.  Here are my charts:

For my first activity, I used the fourth grade chart.  I changed the book cover on the book Esio Trot by Roald Dahl.  It is a short book, but cute.  I usually will have to give a summary of the book, but I used a book cover templet that showed the front and back, so I wrote a summary on the  back.  Here is the “new” cover that I made:

Over spring break I read three books, The Cupcake Queen by Heather Hepler, I Hadn’t Meant to Tell You This by Jaqueline Woodson, and The Cat That Went to Heaven by Elizabeth Coatsworth.  I chose these books, because I needed two Qs and a Z for my A-Z Reading Challenge Page.  I am not currently not reading a book, but I am going to read Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix in the series The Missing.  I am going to read it because I need two Xs for my A-Z Reading Challenge Page.  I am going to read the second one in the series, Sent, for my other X.

I did a RCB for The Cupcake Queen.  This time I used the fifth grade RCB.  I made an acrostic for my favorite characters, Tally, Penny, and Marcus.  I couldn’t think of anything for the letter Y, so I used their name in a sentence about them.  I drew pictures that have to do with the characters.  Here it is:

For this RCB I did a text-to-text connection.  That means that something similar happened in two books.  I did a text-to-text connection between Under the Egg, and Number the Stars.  The connection that I used was that they were both trying to escape from the Nazis.  Here it is:
