A couple  days ago I did a  poster about a question using SOLE. Our question was what is this building and why is it broken. We learned that The building was the Roman Colosseum.  How my group explored the topic was by using Google Chrome. What went well was the research and the writing.

What I learned was that lightning could’ve  stroke the colosseum and the fire broke out. What I would change would be the groups and the website I used. I would’ve given myself a A- because at the begging I was silly and at the end I was working very hard.

An SLC is when the teachers have a conference, but the students come and lead the conference. I had my Student Led Conference on Friday, April 19 at 2:15 pm. My mom and dad came to listen to my conference.

The first few minutes I had a very nervous voice, because it was my first time.  I was prepared for my conference because I practiced reading to my teacher and some friends. If I could add more I would add more information about my goals and not be nervous.

I think that having an SLC is good because my parents, have a chance to see me speaking and leading the conference. It is also good for students, because they have to prepare and write what they want to say. My overall opinion is that having a Student Led Conference is better than the alternative.

SLC #1 Writing

The blog post I chose to write about is Danger! Sea Turtles are Dying out. I think this post is my best piece because I put in a lot of effort and time into it. I also selected this piece for my portfolio because I had fun writing about it. If I could’ve worked more on this post I’d add different kinds of turtles that live at sea and on land. This blog post is different from my work at the beginning of the year because this post is 7 paragraphs and at the beginning of the year I only wrote 4 paragraphs. What I learned on this workpiece was information about sea turtles, research, and writing. What I found the most challenging was finding the website that had the info I needed. This is why it’s my best post.

SLC #2 Math

I chose decimals.  I think this is my best piece, because I taught myself about decimals. I also chose this piece for my portfolio, because I worked extra to learn about decimals myself.  If I could’ve worked furthermore on decimals, I’d teach myself how to multiply and divide decimals. This is different from the beginning of the  year work, because I could not teach myself anything at the beginning of the year. The skills I learned from decimals were liters and better fraction skills. What I found the most challenging was remembering everything I learned.

SLC #3 Project

I chose my book trailer Hatching Magic By Ann Downer as my best project.  What makes this my best project was that I worked on it for five weeks. I selected this for my portfolio because I read the book three times to perfect the book. If I could work more, I’d add more details and try to even make more book trailers. This is different from the beginning of the year, because at the beginning I could not even do one trailer. I learned to persuade people to read the book. What I found the most challenging was finding the time to work on my trailer.

SLC #4 Jewish Studies

I chose reading the megillah. I think that reading the megillah is my best Hebrew piece, because I never read a megillah before. I selected this for my portfolio because I think reading a megillah is fun. If I could work more, I might even try reading a Torah someday. This is different from the beginning of the year work because I couldn’t read a megillah because I didn’t know the tropes. I learned reading in the Torah’s trope from reading the megillah. What I found challenging was getting used to reading the Torah trope. This way I can be prepared for my Bar Mitzvah

SLC #5 Conduct and Work Habits

My strengths are being on time and doing homework. I need to work on writing neatly, not  getting bored, and not talking. My first goal is to write neatly and not rush. To achieve this goal, I will take my time.  To achieve this goal, I will practice writing neatly. My second goal is to not get bored In class. To achieve this goal, I will try to follow along with my teacher.   To achieve this goal, I will get myself busy listening to my teacher. My third goal is not talking with friends. To achieve this goal, I will sit next to people that don’t talk with me. To achieve this goal, I will keep myself from talking. People who can help achieve these goals are my teachers and parents. Distractions that may get in the way of accomplishing these goals are: Sports.

SLC #6 New Goals

This semester I accomplished three of my goals. I improved in reading,   grammar, and vocabulary. I improved in them because I listened in class and read more. I didn’t improve in social studies,  spelling, and music. I didn’t improve in social studies because I didn’t follow along. I didn’t improve in music because I was talking with friends a little bit. My new goals are to improve in spelling, music, and social studies. I want to improve in these areas, because I didn’t improve that much in the third semester.

I just finished reading a book called Eragon By Christopher Paolini. The book is about a teen named Eragon who finds a blue stone. Eragon has know idea that the stone he found  is a dragon egg. Eragon tries to sell the stone, to a trader for money but the trader has know clue what the stone is.   He waits to get an anwser from another trader.  One day Eragon goes to sleep and he hears a peep so he takes his knife. Then, the egg hatches and the baby dragon comes out. It looks at Eragon and then the dragon wanders around his room. He touches his dragon and all the sudden a blast of icy energy surges up onto his hand . Later, the energy wears off  and his palm turns into a silverish color.

Eragon feeds his dragon and takes care of it until it grows. Eragon wants  the dragon mature so that it will hunt for itself and get food. Eragon wants to give his dragon a name, he goes  through every single name but the dragon doesn’t  like any of the names. Finnaly, Eragon  suggests the name Saphira and the dragon agrees. Later, Eragon hops on Saphira and flies for a while and all of the sudden he sees his house on fire.  Eragon goes to his house and puts the fire out and in the process he finds that his uncle got stuck and was buried deep in ashes and wooden planks. Eragon digs with his arms and rescues his uncle but finds him injured badly. All of the sudden, Eragon faints in odd way and finds himself in a house sleeping for three days.

When Eragon wakes up a man named Brom tells him that Galbatorix sent minions to capture him because he has a dragon. Will Galbatorix succeed read Eragon By Christopher Paolini to find out more………………………………….

Should there be any homework? No, there shouldn’t be any homework!!! Homework ruins schedules for parents that have something planned to do. Homework that is hard can stress students and then they won’t sleep well and be tired the next day. It also can be a waste of time if you know your material.

One reason I think homework is bad is because some students don’t have time. Some students can’t do homework because they have sports like football and basketball. Also, there shouldn’t be any homework because you can be helping your parents, like doing chores and cleaning the house.

Reason two is that the students can be stuck on their homework until 12:00am. Then, when the students wake up the don’t listen to anything the teachers say. It is important to get sleep because when you sleep you can learn more and grow bigger

Reason three is that it’s a waste of time if you already mastered your exercise and learned everything. Also, the only homework you should have is to read at least one hour a week. The work should be done in the class.

Homework should only be for studying and for students that need help on a topic that the class is learning.

Do you agree now that the teachers shouldn’t give any more homework? Read more similar opinions here.

Homophones are words that sound the same, but  have different means, some homophones are spelled the same.  Homophones are similar to homonyms just that  homonyms share the same spelling and the same pronunciation but have different meanings.  My Power Point is about homophone examples including some games.  Some examples of homophones are then and than, their difference is that then means after that afterward. And than means the context of a comparison. An example of a homophone are spelled the same in sentence are. 1. It is time to read a fiction book.  2. He read a fantasy  book  yesterday at 3:34 pm. Sentence one has the read future tense read , and sentence two has the past tense of read. I choose to draw a picture about Spanish settlers fishing by their plantations. What made me want to draw about this topic was  that fishing was a very important part of Florida’s  history and people still fish today to provide food for their families.  Another important reason for me to draw settlers fishing is because I like fishing  and eating Florida’s fish.

The next thing I want to learn about Florida’s history is how the Civil War impacted Florida and what where the end results? In  conclusion I really enjoyed learning about Florida’s fascinating history and would want to learn more information about  Florida’s fascinating  history.

This is my picture of settlers fishing near their plantations.

A Limerick is a  poem that is five sentences. The first sentences rhymes with the second and fifth sentence. Nobody knows where actually where the word Limerick came from, some people believe it came from a town near England. My limerick is about a fat lady who liked to sit on a baby. Limericks can be about anything as long as they follow the rules of a Limerick. Limericks are supposed to be funny and humores.  In what country is the city  Limerick located? Hint somewhere near England.

Do you know what a Science Fair is? Have you ever been to one?  My school recently had a science fair on February 11. My science project was to determine how far can you
shoot a slingshot using different projectiles. I had two hypothesis, the first one was  the shorter the length of the tubing the farther the projectile will go, and we were right. The second hypothesis was the weight and the length doesn’t matter, but we were wrong.

We learned about Isaac Newton’s second law of physics which means ma=f. Ma=f is when mass and acceleration are mixed together you get force. “F” is the distance an object travels.   My best projectile was a treeball and it weighed 1 oz and went 20 ft. My worst projectile was a bouncy ball, because it weighed 10 oz which is too heavy to go very far.

What made my experiment special was that we had fun shooting different projectiles, and  going outside shooting them on targets. What also made them special was they were made from wood that we found outside.

What I learned from this year’s science fair was that you can work together to accomplish everything that stands at your path. Did you ever be in a science fair? If you have been in a science fair what was your experiment?
