Since Purim is right around the corner, we are supposed to write about two mitzvot that we practice on this holiday. The first one is the mitzvah of giving Mishloach Manot. We find this mitzvah in Megillat Esther. Mishloach Manot 300px-2_Mishloach_Manotare baskets full of sweets and different foods that we give to our friends. The second mitzvah is giving Matanot L’evyonim. Matanot L’evyonim are gifts that go to the poor. You are supposed to give food or money that is equivalent to the amount of food in a meal. The big difference between these two mitzvot is that they are given to two different types of people. Mishloach Manot baskets go to family and friends while Matano L’evyonim go to people in need.

Both of these mitzvot are very important. Helping the poor is always a good thing to do, especially in the Jewish community. During Purim, we may forget about doing this during all the festivities. So, we have the very important mitzvah of Matanot L’evyonim. Also, being kind is a huge part of the Torah. So, we have the mitzvah of Mishloach Manot baskets that we give to our friends to show our kindness towards them. I am very excited about Purim and I can’t wait to celebrate at our Purim carnival.
