After School Enrichment Classes

2010-2011 Enrichment Classes begin September 20.

Monday~ART EXPRESSIONS with Kim Miller for Kindergarten at 2:00-2:40 p.m. and at 3:45-4:30 p.m. for 1st-5th graders. The children will learn how art develops from a spark of imagination into their self-expression. Their art that will be as unique as they are! They will learn how other artists developed their one-of-a-kind style. Parents can view a class on December 13 and there will be an art sidewalk sale at the end-of-the-year. All proceeds from the art sale will go to charities chosen by the students. What a mitzvah!

$70 for Session I only; $125 for Session I &II OR sign up for the year for $300.

Monday & Tuesday afternoons~ Girls on the RuN with Stephanie Teitelbaum & Betsy Mizrahi as coaches for a Girls Team, for 3rd thru 5th grade girls only. The Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Our curricula addresses all aspects of girls’ development-their physical, emotional, mental, social & spiritual well-being. Time is 3:45-5:00 pm twice a week. Attendance is important to participate in this program. There is a limited number of girls on the team so it is important that everyone attends. Registration will be on-line soon, however, we would like to have you register with us first so we can get our number. Just let us know if your daughter will be participating. Classes start in September, you will receive more information once the on-line registration begins.

Approximate cost is $95 for our Fall Session which runs until December. (payment will be done on-line; registration is in early August)
(3rd-5th graders ONLY). This Session begins on Sept.18

Tuesday~Jazz/Cheer Combination with Lynn Matthews from Mark Spivak’s Dance Institution for Kindergarten at 2:00-2:40 p.m. The program is designed for students to learn forms of movement and the wide terminology utilized in this form of dance. It will also include cheerleading movements using pom poms. Parents can view a class on December 14 and enjoy a performance at the end-of-the-year!

$75 for Session I only; 125 for Sessions I & II

Tuesday ~Mad Science for Kindergarten at 2:00 & for 1st thru 5th graders at 3:45-4:45. These hands-on science programs are themed around a particular area of science and include such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty and more. Mad Science after-school programs offer children a chance to see just how cool science can be! The cost includes all materials and take home projects for the kids.

$90 for this Session only & $180 for Sessions I & II.

Wednesday~Lacrosse with Chip Young from the Greater Experience Sports Academy (GESA). GESA has been providing top-notch training and camps for many years in the mid-Atlantic area and has recently expanded to North Florida. The lacrosse program will provide basic instruction in the fundamentals of the sport in a fun atmosphere. Classes will be on Wednesdays from 2:00-2:45 for Kindergarteners from 3:50-4:45 for 1st thru 5th graders.

$135 for the Fall Session through December.

Wednesday~Yoga This fun and interactive Yoga class will be taught by Amy Stein, our new Second Grade Teacher. With over 1,000 hours of intensive training at The Yoga Room in Encinitas, California, Amy brings enthusiasm and a love of children to this class. In addition to exercising the physical body, Yoga helps to develop many wonderful qualities in children, such as: confidence; self-discipline; the ability to focus and concentrate; and awareness of your thoughts and feelings. Most importantly for the kids, this class will be FUN! All students in Grades 1 through 5 (girls AND BOYS!) are encouraged to enroll from 3:45-4:30. At the last class on Dec 15th, parents are cordially invited to attend, and to witness the beautiful routine the students have learned!

Thursday~Music/Theatre with Jeanine Hoff, our very own Music Instructor. Mrs. Hoff has a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theatre. She is highly trained in music, theatre and voice. Her classes will include singing, acting, scenes and dialogue. A performance for parents will be on December 16 and again at the end of the year. Classes will be for 1st thru 5th graders at 3:45-4:30 p.m.

$120 for the Fall Session through December.

Thursday~ Soccer with Jay Golomb from JYSC soccer league for Kindergarten at 2:00-2:45 p.m. and for 1st-5th graders at 4:00-4:50 p.m. The program is designed to give boys and girls the opportunity to learn to develop a passion for the great game of soccer. Each class consists of a variety of games that keep the players’ interest while introducing basic concepts of balance, coordination, and soccer skills. Attire: comfortable play clothes, cleats and shin guards. There will be a game on December 16 for parents to watch and again on May 26.

$130 for the Fall Session only; OR sign up for the year and pay only $390.

Friday~ Lil Ninjas OR TaeKwondo with Titus from Sun Belt Martial Arts for Kindergarten at 2:00-2:40 p.m.(Lil Ninjas) and at 4:00-4:45 p.m.(Taekwondo) for 1st-5th graders. The program is one of the most popular martial arts for self-defense, sport and personal development. They will learn Focus, Teamwork, Control, Balance, Memory, Discipline, Fitness and Coordination. The children who complete the year will be better adjusted to do well at school. Attire: Loose, comfortable clothing and shoes. Parents are invited to attend a class on 12/17.

Friday~Kids Mix with Lynn Matthews from Mark Spivak’s Dance Studio for Kindergarten at 2:00-2:40. This kinesthetic class encorporates an introduction to kids’ yoga, pilates, kids on a ball, basic tumbling moves & cheer dance. Two subjects will be introduced per session based on the teacher’s discretion. Parents are invited to attend a class on 12/17.

Friday~ Techies of Tomorrow with Alex Hills. In our own computer lab our 1st-5th graders from 3:45-4:30 will learn how to use the internet to express creativity through various websites. We will discover and explore websites that allow us to design and create interactive stories, games, simulations and art. Every session we will take time to learn how to create video blogs, viewable from home, which will chronicle our experiences in class. Students will further enhance computer skills taught during their school day.
