Making Predictions~Extra Credit Questions

The 6th Graders have just started listening to the story Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper.  We have only completed chapter 1, but can already sense the interest and excitement for hearing this story.  We were supposed to be participating in the Global Read Aloud, but unfortunately, our schedule did not permit it.  We will still read and enjoy the story .

The 6th graders know that the main character cannot speak.  Why do you think she cannot talk?  Leave a comment with your predictions and explain why you think that.

The 7th Graders have been listening to the story Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick.  The students have just heard that Maxwell’s father might be released from prison.  What do you predict will happen?  Explain why you think that.

  1. Benjamin says:

In language arts class, our teacher read to us the first chapter of the book Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. The main character of this book is a girl name Melody who cannot talk, walk, or write. I think this girl cannot do these things because she may have cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a disease that will not let you have full control over your muscles. The people who have cerebral palsy usually cannot talk, walk, or write because those all require using your muscles. That is why I think Melody has cerebral palsy.

  2. Jake G. says:

I think that Max’s father will be released from prison, and we will find out what he did. He will try to fight for rights of custody for Maxwell, and Freak will help Maxwell and Grim and Gran to go to court. Also, we will see Maxwell’s mother or find out how she dies.

  3. Joshua F. says:

I think in the book that we are reading, Melody will have a best friend and friends who will help speak up for what she has to say. I also think that someone in the book will understand what Melody can not do because the went through their own personal experience. I think she can not talk because she is a bit scared to speak her first word.
