Exercise with Pedometers

Pedometers are portable, electronic devices that measure a person’s steps taken. They may also measure distance, and calories. Used originally by sports and physical fitness enthusiasts, pedometers are now becoming popular as an everyday exercise measurer and motivator. A total of 10,000 steps per day (or 5 miles) is the general benchmark for an active lifestyle. We will measure our steps during our PE periods in December and publish those results either in blogs or on our website. This program is designed to establish enthusiasm and positive attitudes to ensure ongoing, healthy physical activity outside the school walls. It is also a way to introduce 21st century learning and Physical Education

    Jared,
5th and 6th graders have individual blogs. It would be great for them to post this information on their “blogfolios.” They know how to do this on the laptops, and I am also available if I can be of any help.
I love the idea of setting exercise goals and reflecting/sharing as a way to bring 21st century learning practices to PE.
