<p>We will be discussing children around the world, where they live,  and how they travel. Take a look at &#8220;Our Learning Map&#8221; in the page above and notice how many new &#8220;pins&#8221; we have throughout the week!</p>
<p>Our target skills this week include <em>drawing conclusions</em> and <em>plot.</em><em> </em> We will also review the letter sounds for <em>q </em><em> </em>(kw) and <em>y </em>(y)<em> </em>and their associated letters, review verbs and nouns, and continue the blending of sounds to make words, among other phonics skills.</p>

<p>We are completing our unit in Singapore Math on &#8220;Number Bonds.&#8221;  We will be finding 2 numbers that make a given number up to the number 10. We will be doing this using beads and other manipulatives moving from concrete experiences to pictorial to abstract.  Check out your child&#8217;s number bond on his/her blogfolio similar to the example pictured.</p>

<p>In conjunction with our unit about Antarctica, our class created our own book <em>If I Could Go to Antarctica </em>based on the book we read in class titled <em>If You Could Go to Antarctica.</em> Using all of the information we learned from our guest speaker who showed us her very own video from her trip to Antarctica and through various other <a href="http://mjgds.org/classrooms/kindergarten/files/2013/04/book-cover.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2481" alt="book cover" src="http://mjgds.org/classrooms/kindergarten/files/2013/04/book-cover-300x224.jpg" width="300" height="224" /></a>sources, including videos and books, we</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>were able to write our own book.  We are the authors, using conventional spelling and inventive spelling using our phonics skills, and illustrators of this book. On each page you are also able to hear us read our page aloud by clicking on the &#8220;microphone.&#8221;</p>
<p>If you own an iPad or iPhone, you can download the <a href="http://www.mjgds.org/epub/K-if-I-could-go-to-antartica.epub">epub file</a> and directly drop them into your iTunes library. Once you sync your device with iTunes, you are able to read our Antarctica book.</p>
