Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade

Third, fourth and fifth grade students created dogs, not ordinary dogs, but dogs inspired by artist George Rodrique!

They learned about the elements of art; line, color, space, texture, form, shape and value.

 George Rodrigue is the artist who paints Blue Dog and wrote and illustrated the book, Why is Blue Dog Blue. The book can be found in the MJGDS library. Please visit his website to view a collection of his art at George Rodrigue.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students learned about author and illustrator, Eric Carle. Eric Carle illustrated Mr. Seahorse, Brown Bear, Brown Bear and wrote and illustrated The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Mixed up Chameleon.

They created a collage using paper, sequins, paint, oil pastels and sand.

Middle School

Middle School students used observational drawing to create pictures of art supplies. They are using watercolors to paint their drawings.

First Grade Cactus

First grade students learned about the desert, including the animals that live there such as iguanas, coyotes and rattlesnakes. They each made a cactus collage using tissue paper, paint, stamps and more!

Second Grade and The Aztecs

Second graders learned about the history of the Aztecs and were inspired by the Aztec’s sunstone to make a sun.

Preschool

Preschoolers read Mr. Seahorse, by Eric Carle., in art class. Its about a daddy seahorse holding its eggs in his pouch.

Students mixed blue and white paint to create the ocean and used  yellow and orange to color the seahorse. They created seaweed with oil pastels.

These pictures are of the preschoolers creating their incredible oceans!

Middle School

Middle school students learned about forced perspective. Forced perspective is an optical illusion used in photography.  It can make things appear closer, further, larger or smaller.

First Grade visit to the Zoo

First grade students went to the Jacksonville Zoo. The Jacksonville Zoo is a home to a lot of endangered animals including a variety  of monkeys.

First grade students learned about conservation with a focus on the animals at the zoo.

They used watercolors to create the background and a black oil pastel to draw the monkey.
