First Grade: Color Poetry

In language arts, first grade read a book entitled “Hailstones and Halibut Bones” by Mary O’Neill.  It contains works of poetry about the colors of the spectrum. Students chose a color and wrote sensory poems.  They described how the color sounds, smells, tastes, looks, and feels.

In visual arts, first grade learned about the color wheel, tints and shades. A tint is when white is added to a color. A shade is when black is added to a color. They mixed paint to create tints and shades and created a background for their poems.
