Election Day!

Election Day!

Yesterday was election day! On election day, we all gathered in the synagogue and we listened to all the speeches! I was running for secretary. Before I went up to the bima, I was a little nervous, but after the fact, I felt really good about it.  Morah Eta expected some things like being responsible, having written good notes, and so on. Since I was running for secretary I had a few more responsibilities than some of the other jobs. For one thing, I was going to have to take notes for the school! I thought this was going to be a great experience for me because I’m now the school’s secretary!

VPK Buddy Visit

VPK Buddy Visit

Yesterday, we got to see our VPK buddies again. During our visit we had three stations to go to Chanukah Bingo, edible dreidels, and we played dreidel. We would go with our buddies to each of the stations. After, we went to all the stations we gave them a Chanukah present. A book! We read those books to them until the end of our visit. Our buddies were so cute and we all had a great time!

Zachary’s Birthday!

Zachary’s Birthday!

Today is Zachary’s birthday, and we did some fun celebrating!  Zachary brought in doughnuts!

Zach’s mom came in and surprised Zach with birthday, and jaguar balloons!  She (Zach’s Mom) got jaguar balloons because Zachary loves the jaguars, and his parents are good friends with the people who work there.

Our next birthday coming up is Evie’s!  Her birthday is November 20th, 2001!  Four days after that is Zoe’s birthday!  She will be in London for her birthday on November 24th, 2001, Thanksgiving!

Thanks for reading!

Happy Birthday Rebecca!

Happy Birthday Rebecca!

Yesterday was Rebecca’s birthday!  She is 10! Double digits!  This coming year, how old are you going to be?
Rebecca brought in doughnuts, and in my opinion, they were really good!

When is your birthday?  Birthdays are always fun! It’s one day of the whole entire 365 day year that you get to celebrate the day you were born.  My birthday is coming up soon!  If your birthday is soon, what are you doing for it?

I want to hear from you.  If you have a question for me about my birthday, leave me a comment.  If you have something I didn’t ask about your birthday, then leave a comment.  See you next time!

Recap from the Week of September 16

Recap from the Week of September 16

Be sure to read all of the posts below.  Our students updated this week’s blog by writing about all that we worked on this week.  Next week is “Back to School Night” on September 22.  I hope to see everyone there.  The class has worked hard preparing a video for all of our parents.  We are currently working on factors & multiples in Math.  We will be starting our next story The Horned Toad Prince next week in Reading.  We have been learning about subjects and predicates, main idea and also cause & effect during our Language Arts block.  We will be introducing our next big project on Florida some time next week with Ms. Hernandez.

Book Group

Book Group

Instead of library this year, we have book group. Book group is when a group of people get together to read and discuss a book. For our book group, Mrs. Leonard chooses a few people (currently four) at a time to choose a book, read it, and discuss it. The current four are Itamar, Elior, Jonah, and Zoe. The book they are reading is “The Sign of The Beaver”. During book group we discuss the main ideas, what words make the sentence exciting and stuff like that. During the first few days it was more like silent reading time which is good because the people Mrs. Leonard chose are very big readers. In your free time………..READ!

Third Week of School Report…

Third Week of School Report…

We have had another fabulous week in 4th grade!  I am so impressed with the efforts of our class this week.  Each student really worked hard on their ‘script’ writing assignment.  This has been an exciting “TEAM” activity for all of us and we are looking forward to filming next week.

We started our chapter on Estimation in Math.  Our class did a fabulous job rounding numbers up to a million.  They are ready for their quiz next Tuesday!  We also reviewed some of our “Money” math skills to prepare everyone for the opening of our store today.  Their excitement was quite overwhelming for our opening day!  We chose a banker, a cashier and an economist!  Each of them worked very hard.  Be sure to ask your child all about it!

We read the story Lewis and Clark and Me during reading this week.  We learned some new vocabulary words and the class completed an open book test today.  We also started Unit 2 in Wordly Wise and they seem to really be comprehending the meanings of these words and using them correctly in class.  We will have our Wordly Wise test next Tuesday.

The students have now had their Book Report folders for a full week.  They should be thinking about the first Genre they want to read and have the name of their book chosen by next Friday.  They each have a detailed list of books on their reading level.  If there are any questions, please email me.

I hope to see all of you Monday evening for our Singapore Math Parent Night starting at 7:00 PM.  It will be very beneficial to you.  You will have a better understanding of how we are teaching math this year and hopefully be able to reinforce these practices at home.

Have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom!

Check out the pictures of Liam as our first Banker for our class store.

Great Week of School in 4th Grade!

Great Week of School in 4th Grade!

We had a very productive week.  We read our first reading story “Because of Winn Dixie”. The class enjoyed reading about a dog, and we talked about sequencing and summarizing this week.  In math, we finished our first unit on place value.  We took a quiz on Friday to assess the skills we have been working on.  We plan to start rounding and estimation next week.  Please continue to review multiplication facts weekly at home.  It is really imperative that they all know the multiplication facts.

We have also been working on our first project with Ms.Hernandez, a video.  It will be a special treat for all of our parents at Back to School Night on September 22.  Working on a video takes much time and preparation.  Many decisions have to be made and the children are the workers.  They have to write scripts and complete the editing.  They all were able to choose their own parts, use their ideas for our story board and truly take ownership of this project.

We have started our Social Studies unit on Florida and our Science unit on Ecosystems.  We will be getting more involved in these units once the video with Ms.Hernandez is complete.

We will be introducing new Wordly Wise words next week and new Spelling words.  Homework will be posted sometime before Monday at 5:00 PM.

Each Friday, you receive your child’s work in their folders.  Please sign and return the weekly reports along with the stapled papers when they return to school.

I also sent home folders about our book report requirements for the year.  We did discuss it thoroughly in class, however, I definitely recommend you read it with your child and discuss.

Have a great weekend and Shabbat Shalom!

First Week of School!

First Week of School!

We had a fabulous first week of school in fourth grade.  We spent a lot of time going over all of our rules and procedures.  The children should have a clear idea of how our classroom needs to run in order for us to be productive.  Beginning on Monday, we will be utilizing our behavior chart.

We chose our first “Team Teitelbaum Jobs” and the class voted on salaries for each one.  We will choose new jobs next week.  Be sure to ask your child what his/her job was and how much they earned during week one.  Many students earned other credits for their good behavior and/or for modeling our classroom rules effectively.

The class shared their summer projects which were all very creative.  Number the Stars definitely made an impression on this class.  Everyone took their AR test on Friday.  Ask your child how they did.

We started working on the first steps of our new Singapore math program.  The class completed a “problem of the day”(POD) each morning and we began our mental math activities on Thursday. Friday was our first complete Singapore lesson.  The class really did a fabulous job.

We will begin our first Reading story Because of Winn Dixie next week.  Our first Spelling Test will take place on Tuesday, August 30.  Most Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.  We will have our first Wordly Wise test on Wednesday, August 31.

Look out for our homework to be posted on Sunday, most likely in the later part of the day.  Remember, there are often minor changes throughout the week which are announced during class.

Ask your child what their bonus word is?  They need to write it down on a piece of paper with its definition.  We discussed this “mystery” word in class.

Shabbat Shalom!  Have a great weekend!
