Thanksgiving and then Chanuka

Reading “Molly’s Pilgrim” together was a treat. It gave us the opportunity to discuss how Thanksgiving actually has it’s roots in Sukkot. We also discussed the idea of modern day Pilgrims – Jews who came to America to worship freely.

It’s hard to believe that not long after we clean up from Thanksgiving it will be Chanuka! We have studied the story and learned about the 2 miracles that we celebrate: The victory of the small Maccabee army over the Syrian- Greeks and the miracle of the oil burning for 8 days. Next week we will study the customs and the traditions of the holiday. On Monday afternoon we would like to begin painting our Menorahs. If there are any parents who would like to come in Monday afternoon at 3 to help with the painting we would welcome you! Just let us know if you are going to come.

Thank you to all who are listening to our eager readers. Hope you are enjoying the new reading book – the rules are really clear and help everyone as we work to imporve on our phonetic reading skills.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
