It is Thursday afternoon, the 16th day of school, and we are feeling so proud of each of our students for settling into the Second Grade school year so nicely! We have been through three Spelling lists, three Reading stories, one Science chapter, one Math chapter, and many, many other lessons. We have developed a wonderful sense of classroom community, and we are enjoying getting to know each child!
This week, we enjoyed reading a Henry and Mudge story in our own Reading book! We studied the genre of realistic fiction and contrasted it with fantasy. In Grammar class, we continued our study of complete sentences by revisiting subjects and learning about predicates. We also discussed research skills using a Table of Contents and an Index.
Now that several assessments have been taken, we are beginning to create small Math and Language Arts groups for more individualized teaching and learning. We will be integrating our two classes of kids for these differentiated experiences.
We wish you an easy fast on Yom Kippur, and look forward to seeing you on Monday.
