We really enjoyed going to see Charlotte’s Web!

The play was wonderful and only an hour long (perfect timing!).  We even got to have snack while we watched the play. Ms. Lewis brought cheese-its for everyone!  After the play we went back to our bus and went to the park for lunch and play time!

We went to Losco Park, close to school.  It was a huge success with bathrooms, picnic tables, and lots of playground equipment!!!  We got to eat lunch and then play for almost a whole hour!!!

104th day of School

So today we noticed something that was different! Ms. Lewis wasn’t here, she was out sick!! Although we missed her… we were really glad that she is at home resting so that she can get better as soon as possible :)

We started the day off with our morning journal and calendar, while Sammy wrote down the observations for DAY 5 of our larva. They are getting soooo BIG!!

In Math we continued with multiplication, did our problem of the day and then had a quick test on what have learned about repeated addition and multiplication stories. Everyone did a great job! Look for them in the folders.

PE time came and then straight into Language Arts we went. We got to buddy read, Mama’s Present with a partner and practice our reading fluency/comprehension. This story is really fun, we really want to have that Piñata party that Ms. Lewis was talking about yesterday ;)

Before we knew it, it was time for Ms. Tolisano to get the iPads so we could take our AR quizzes. Once those were done we got to go see Ms. Hallett in the Library and check out new AR books for next week. We had to hurry to Music so we wouldn’t be late… only to find out that the Kindergarten class was still in there. We patiently waited outside and played the QUIET GAME. We were super quiet and even got a compliment from Ms. DiMarco :) YES!!

Lunch came next and after that we got to learn a new game called Sparkle. Ms. Tolisano taught us how to play with our spelling words. We got really good and went 2 whole rounds but then had to stop because some of us were not having good sportsmanship. Instead of playing another round, we went around the room and said 1 nice thing about the person who was sitting next to us. After hearing what everyone had to say, we all felt really good about ourselves. We realized that we are a TEAM and we are all friends. :)

Off to Jewish Studies we went… Hopefully Ms. Lewis is feeling much better tomorrow! Don’t forget to practice the spelling words for our Spelling Test tomorrow and bring in the homework packet. Have a great night!

58th Day of 1st Grade

What a terrific Tuesday!!  We started our morning work and went right into PE.  We read our class book in-between for about 10 minutes.

After PE we started language arts.  We worked today on the difference and recognizing plural and singular nouns.  After that we did a fun (and time consuming) crossword puzzle!  We each had our own copy but we did it together on the smart board.  It was so much fun and all related to Thanksgiving!!

We had so much fun with the crossword puzzle that we had a late snack and jumped right into math.  Today in math we talked about ‘greater than’ and ‘less than.’  We emphasized that ‘Pacman eats the bigger number!!!’  We had a lot of fun learning about that too.  There is a worksheet in the daily folders of a ‘mystery picture’ with addition.  it is NOT homework–just an extra thing for fun, totally optional (and good practice!!).

After math we had our 4th grade buddies come and read stories to us!  Shortly after they left it was time for lunch.

Right after lunch we went to library and then went to Jewish studies.

TOMORROW IS INTERGENERATIONAL DAY!!!

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE TO WATCH US PERFORM.  WE WILL BE SINGING 2ND IN THE PROGRAM.  TOMORROW IS ALSO A HALF DAY WHICH MEANS NOON DISMISSAL.  WE WILL SEE YOU AT 12PM!

**WE WEAR OUR NORMAL SCHOOL UNIFORM TOMORROW, NOTHING SPECIAL!**

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns :)

56th Day of 1st Grade

CONGRATULATIONS TO GEORGE, TALIA, and EVAN for being our ticket drawing winners!!!  Great work boys and girls :)

Jerry gets to spend the THREE DAY WEEKEND with LILY!!!  I know they will have a BLAST together!

We started with math today.  We did more work with weighing!  After math we had an assembly at 9am.  We went to the assembly instead of having PE today.

After the assembly we started language arts.  We did lots of practice with ‘one or more than one’ and our spelling words.  We also had our spelling test today!  If there is a sticky note on the spelling test that went home today, then you will have the chance to RETAKE the spelling test on Monday.  There will be NO SPELLING words next week.  After language arts we had snack and then it was time for our AR quizzes.

After AR we had music.  We practiced our songs that we will be signing NEXT WEDNESDAY.  After music it was time for lunch.

We did centers after lunch.  There was a reading center with Mrs. Alford, and math center with Ms. Lewis, and a handwriting center.  After centers it was time for Jewish Studies!

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for conferences :)

I HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT THE SINGAPORE WORKSHOP PARENT NIGHT TONIGHT FROM 7-8PM HELD IN THE MJGDS LIBRARY!!!!!

I so apologize for the late post! I was in a at a Singapore workshop this afternoon :)

Today was a great day!

We had a math test today with our measurements and length.  We did a GREAT job!! They will be going home tomorrow.  I am SO proud of how well everyone did!!  Then we had PE.

After PE we had language arts.  We did more work with capitalization.  We also learned about sequencing today.  We did a fun activity where we had to arrange ourselves in order of a story!  Ms. Lewis wrote our story on 16 flashcards, everyone got a flashcard and we had to organize ourselves in the correct sequence according to how the story went!  It was lots of fun! Ms. Lewis took a video that will be posted soon :)

After language arts we had snack which was closely followed by AR quizzes and then music.  After music we went to lunch.

After lunch we had science.  We talked about fossils, dinosaur bones, and cavemen!  It was a great conversation :)

TOMORROW IS SHOW AND TELL! WE ALSO HAVE OUR JERRY DRAWING AND OUR TICKET DRAWING.

WE HAVE OUR REVIEW SPELLING TEST TOMORROW!

We started our day with math.  We did our problem of the day and two workbook pages.  We finally finished our shapes and patterns unit today!  Tomorrow we will have a cumulative test for review.

After PE we started language arts.  We did more reviewing.  We had a reading comprehension story with a silly frog!  We also did some cutting and pasting with punctuation.  We had to tell the difference between a statement, a question, and an exclamation.

Then we had snack.  Right after snack we took our AR quizzes and then went to music!  After music we had lunch.  Then we came back and watched BrainPop videos for science.  The BrainPop videos come from a wonderful educational website; we reviewed plants and animals, and also talked about weather.

Week of August 27—Jewish Studies א

We have been singing and learning lots  the past week and it  will continue this week.  The letter א Alef  is at the beginning of words like:

אריאות ariyot (our Hebrew letter lion)

אבא abba (dad)

ארון  aron (cabinet)

אדום adome (red)

אני anee (me)

Please note once again that the pages that are circled in Ariyot are the ones to practice with your child for homework.  Those are the pages that we have completed in class and these pages should seem somewhat familiar to your child.  Enjoy!!

Our class is very fortunate to work with Ms. Tolisano on our IPads on most Wednesdays!  Alefs and Ariyot are everywhere!!!

We pray twice a week with Dr. Mitzmacher and it has been a pleasure for all of us!  We also pray on Thursdays with Hazzan Holzer in the chapel and will be taking part in the Torah service there.  On Fridays, a part of Kabbalat Shabbat is held with Kitah Bet. We love seeing our siblings in Kitah Bet!!! :)

On Friday afternoons at about 3:00 PM in the chapel, we would love to have “Mystery Readers” read in ENGLISH OR HEBREW to both Kitah Alef and Kitah Bet.  If you are interested,  let us know a date that works for you and we will try to work it out.  It’s a great opportunity for parents or grandparents to be with us!!

The High Holidays are fast approaching and we will begin learning about Rosh Hashanah this week.  שנה טובה  Shanah Tovah   Happy New Year!
